The town has the shape of a walled triangle in whose centre there is the portico arched Plaza de la Vila. In it there rises the outstanding building of the Hostel del Rey.

Parts of the former town walls are conserved, such as the emblematic Torre Motxa or parts of the façade of the Casa de l’Oli.

Other monuments that should be visited include the Municipal Auditorium and the monuments dedicated to Jaume I, El Labrador and El Ángel, or to the guitarist Tarrega.

Of the ecclesiastical buildings we should highlight the archpriest’s church of San Jaime as it is one of the larges churches in the whole Valencian Community and has an interesting parish museum. Another important church is the basilica of San Pascual Bailón in which there are relics of the saint. We should also highlight the façade of the church of the Sangre, the chapel of the Cristo del Hospital in the Dominican monastery, and the convent of the Carmen.

Special mention is deserved by the hermitage of the Mare de Déu de Gràcia in the Termet countryside. It is the hermitage of the town’s patron saint. Next to the main building there are the stables, the oratory known as La Coveta and the municipal Ethnological Museum. Neither should we fail to visit the Town Museum housed in the Casa de Polo, as it contains an important artistic heritage.

Shall we enjoy a fiesta?

The festive calendar begins in January with the celebration of San Antonio. In February they celebrate the fiesta of the founding of the town with many cultural events. In May there are the patron saint fiestas of San Pascual, in September those of the Mare de Déu de Gracia and in October the fiestas of the Virgen del Rosario. In November there is the fair of Santa Catalina and in December the Purísima.

What is its cultural life like?
This town takes great care to promote culture. Examples of this are the festivals of Avui Jazz and ancient music and the Estiu a l’ermita, as well as the school theatre campaigns. We should also highlight the different International festivals they celebrate, such as the dance festival, the street theatre Teatre de Carrer, the plectrum orchestras and the festival of strumming instruments.

To this complete production of cultural activities encouraged by the local government we should add the great number of residents’ associations that collaborate in the same task.
