Ares del Maestre is a small village in the Maestrazgo with 250 inhabitants. It is 1,194 metres above sea level in a picturesque spot fought over throughout history.

It has many touristic attractions. Jut minutes from the village on cliffs that surround it to the east there is a group of water mills made whit 17th and 18th century hydraulic techniques.

The visitor cannot leave Ares without enjoying the ecological wealth of its mountains and its age-old trees in the Barranc dels Horts, one of the most ancient Mediterranean woods in Europe.

Ares celebrates its patron saint fiestas on August 24 and 25 in honour of San Bartolomé and Santa Elena. The pleasure of its cuisine will be discovered by the visitor savouring the tasty grilled meats, smoked hams, the locally made cheese and traditional sweets such as the “colla”.
