There is an individual time implied within
physical time. Day, night, season, equinox,
solstice; a succession of moments that give
us the impression of inhabiting a cyclic
universe that determines each and every
one of our activities.
On the other hand, men have always tried
to put time in order and one of the most
significant roles of the festivities is
precisely ordering time, providing a rhythm
for social life.
By its festivities
we can know the life conditions of the
town where they are celebrated.
Its degree of productivity (the working
days), the role of religion in the working
annual rhythm (the liturgical calendar),
its main activities (agricultural, industry,
sea festivities…), and the memories
kept from past historical or legendary
deeds (October the 9th, the Magdalena
festivity…) or what festivities
are held which exceed their cultural,
social or political boundaries (Christmas,
Easter, May Day…).
